Out here in Oregon, I enjoy the rough-hewn life of a modern homesteader and mountain woman, weaving outdoor adventures into the fabric of everyday living. Whether tending the homestead hearth or a campfire up in the mountains, I find great enjoyment in the work of a self-sufficient life. Gather around as I share my tales of camping, cooking, handcrafting, wildcrafting, canning, growing food, keeping chickens, and raising twin children. It is my hope to share some ideas and inspiration with other folks, to strengthen our connections with the land and wild places. As my hero, Henry David Thoreau once said, “In wildness is the preservation of the world.”
Would love if you shared the recipes! Especially Raspberry Lavender and Cherry Cardamom! Today I put up raspberry vanilla (http://www.sbcanning.com/2011/07/canning-raspberry-delight.html) Ive never canned cherries but a neighbor has a cherry tree and I'm working up the nerve to ask to pick it.
The recipes I used are nothing more exciting than the cooked jam recipe from the Pomona's natural pectin box. The only thing I did different was to not mash up all the cherries too much to make them more like preserves, and I added fresh ground cardamom seeds to them to taste and fresh ground lavender flowers to the raspberry jam. I like the sound of raspberry vanilla. I'll have to check that out. And neighbors, in my experience, are often happy to share their cherries. Have fun!
